Top Ten Most Vivid Worlds/Settings In Books
1. - The Seven Kingdoms -
A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin
The entire kingdom is just so detailed and incredibly well built. The TV series has definitely helped shape my vision of this world.
2. - New Beijing -
Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Cinder by Marissa Meyer
I absolutely loved the setting in Cinder. The palace and the marketplace, all of it was just beautiful.
3. - Hogwarts -
The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
Need I really explain myself here? This entire universe is so magical and fantastical and just amazing.
4. - Le Cirque des Rêves -
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The Night Circus is such an amazing place! I wish I could go. Each tent is described in such a way that it brings the entire circus to life. I felt as if I were right there in the circus.
5. - Uglyville / The Smoke -
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
It was interesting to discover all of the sectors in this town as well as explore the wilderness!
6. - Incarceron -
Incarceron by Catherin Fisher
Incarceron by Catherin Fisher
I don't remember too much about this book as I read it a long time ago, but I can clearly picture the world of Incarceron. My mental visions of this universe have stayed with me very strongly.
7. - Panem -
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Both the Districts, the Capitol and the Arena are just magnificent. The movie has provided a new insight into how this world could appear, but my own imagination of this world sticks in my mind.
8. - Chicago -
Divergent by Veronica Roth
Divergent by Veronica Roth
In Divergent, it is the faction headquarters that Tris trains in that is particularly vivid.
9. - Godspeed -
Across the Universe by Beth Revis
The world building on this ship was wonderfully done. Each level explored was pictured clearly in my mind as I read this.
10. - The cave (Arizona) -

The Host by Stephenie Meyer
The cave setting in the host was so intricate and developed. I loved it!

A lot of the dystopians have great, memorable settings. I think Night Circus is going to be on lots of these lists.
ReplyDeleteI noticed this as well when I was choosing books for this. So many of the dystopian settings are really intriguing and require a lot of world building.

I totally agree with so many of your choices! The Night Circus has been sitting on my shelf and I haven't gotten around to it yet but so many people have put it on their lists! Gah, I need to get to it soon.

Okay I'll say this and hide. I still haven't read A Game of Thrones. *hides* Okay I'll for sure as soon as I find it in library. Great list and I can't wait to meet The Seven Kingdoms.

Harry Potter is probably the best world I've ever read. Everything is so detailed. Every characters is important and plays a role. All the little details are what really brings it to life. I'm still shocked when people haven't read the books. WHAT are they waiting for?!

I felt the same waywhen I read Cinder and Harry Potter. The Wizarding World and the amazingness of the technologically advanced New Beijing are two sights I wish I could see in real life (though the wizarding world is slightly mroe possible with the creation of that theme park... ). I'n really curious about the Game of Thrones and Night Circus books because I keep hearing amazing things about them and their settings. I'll definitely have to check those out!

Here's my Top Ten!
Definitely agree with the Seven Kingdoms, and I love watching the map during the opening credits of the TV version for some reason! I think they did a really good job bringing the books to life faithfully.
