PONDATHON SIGN UP | Meet Pip

January 26, 2020

Pondathon: The Quiet Pond's story-driven readathon. Image: Two swords with vines wrapped around it frame the words 'Pondathon', with three little forest sprites sitting on top. One forest sprite has a leaf on its head, the middle has twigs for horns, and the right has a mushroom on its head.

I'm sure you all know that I love readathons... and if not then hi, I'm Caz and I love participating in readathons. I try to join them every opportunity I can and I am so excited about the Pondathon, which is now underway!

What is the Pondathon?

The Pondathon is a co-operative and story-driven readathon hosted and run by CW from The Quiet Pond. The aim of the Pondathon is to read books and collect points to protect the friends over at The Quiet Pond from the encroaching malevolent forces that threaten our friends in the forest.

To participate, you must join one of five teams, each with a unique way to collect pointscreate your own animal character (see below for my Pondathon character) and sign up here! You can also follow the story of the Pondathon as it unfolds, and participants can also complete 'side quests' during the readathon to collect extra points.

The readathon takes place from January 24th 2020 to March 7th 2020. More information about the readathon can be found here. It's not too late to sign up if you'd like to join!

My Pond Character

Meet my Pond Character: Pip, Master Librarian & Protector of Knowledge. She will do whatever is necessary to protect the library and all friends of the Pond.

Pip is joining Team Xialong and is prepared to fight!
Team Xiaolong

Join Xiaolong, Keeper of the Pond, at the front lines! Use reading-magic to help fight off the forces of evil to protect our friends. They are depending on us!

Progression: No tricks or gimmicks! Join Team Xiaolong and gain points by reading – it’s as simple as that! For every 10 pages/15 minutes (of the total time on the audiobook) that you read, you gain 1 point.

Xiaolong team bonus: For every book you finish, Xiaolong’s team fights with more spirit and hope. Give yourself an extra 15 points!

My Pondathon TBR

I will be sharing my full February TBR shortly! I will come back and edit this post with all of the books I'm planning on reading for the Pondathon (as well as the To Be Continued Readathon).
CURRENTLY READING

The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin
This is the way the world ends. Again.

Three terrible things happen in a single day. Essun, a woman living an ordinary life in a small town, comes home to find that her husband has brutally murdered their son and kidnapped their daughter. Meanwhile, mighty Sanze -- the world-spanning empire whose innovations have been civilization's bedrock for a thousand years -- collapses as most of its citizens are murdered to serve a madman's vengeance. And worst of all, across the heart of the vast continent known as the Stillness, a great red rift has been been torn into the heart of the earth, spewing ash enough to darken the sky for years. Or centuries.

Now Essun must pursue the wreckage of her family through a deadly, dying land. Without sunlight, clean water, or arable land, and with limited stockpiles of supplies, there will be war all across the Stillness: a battle royale of nations not for power or territory, but simply for the basic resources necessary to get through the long dark night. Essun does not care if the world falls apart around her. She'll break it herself, if she must, to save her daughter.

Meet the Characters: Strange the Dreamer

October 3, 2018

The Strange the Dreamer duology is filled with a myriad of wonderful, strange and fascinating characters whose lives are interwoven in complex and surprising ways. If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting them yet, then I hope you enjoy this short introduction to just a handful of the characters you will meet - and this is just a taste, you'll have to read the books to really get to know them!

The amazing character art below is stunning! I believe they were all designed by Lesya of BlackBirdInk, go and check out the rest of their work here!

LAZLO STRANGE aka Strange the Dreamer

I like to call Lazlo the 'loveable librarian'. He is a curious soul, filled with so much wonder and amazement. He loves stories and, most of all, wants to unravel the mysteries of the mythical city of Weep.

SARAI aka The Muse of Nightmares

Sarai... sweet, sweet, Sarai. She is compassionate and full of love and longing. Sarai is loyal, but she also stands by what she believes.

Cover Reveal | WE THREE HEROES by Lynette Noni

June 15, 2018

Happy Friday, lovely readers!

I have something extremely exciting to share with you today, and I have been drooling over it ever since I saw it.

You may know that I have been reading (and loving) the books from The Medoran Chronicles by Lynette Noni as they have been released, and one of my favourite things about this series are the characters. And whilst I would love to talk about which characters I love and why (*ahem* mainly Nyx), that's not the extremely exciting something I'm sharing today - though it is somewhat related!

Later this year, Pantera Press is releasing We Three Heroes, a collection of three novellas set in Medora. Each story will follow one of Alex Jenning's (the MC of the series) best friends: D.C., Jordan, and Bear. Oh yeah, it is their time to shine!

Until now, We Three Heroes hasn't had a cover... are you ready to see what it looks like?

#TheReadingQuest | TBR

August 4, 2017

When I first saw Aentee of Read at Midnight reveal that she was working on a video-game-quest-inspired reading adventure game (woo, mouthful), I knew I had to participate. For all of the details of #TheReadingQuest, be sure to take a look at this signup post.

#TheReadingQuest runs from August 13th - September 10th. I will be posting weekly updates on the blog, and (hopefully) vlogging the whole time so I can post a video wrap up after it has finished.

I will be embarking on the ROGUE path: These adventurers have absolute mastery over stealth and speed, and they slip in and out of the quest through the Fifth Across path. They celebrate underappreciated books and half-forgotten stories.

(Also, how amazing is the character art, courtesy of CW of Read, Think, Ponder!?)

I will be starting at the bottom right corner of the board and working on all of the 5 boxes along the bottom. If I complete all of these, I can then continue along the Mage's path. I can also choose to do any of the side quests (middle boxes) at any time.

Below is a tentative TBR of the books I hope to read for the Rogue path, as well as some book options should I choose to do any side quests or continue along the Mage path.

#TomeTopple Read-a-thon | TBR

June 7, 2016

This is a little belated, but I am participating in the #TomeTopple, created by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes! This readathon runs from June 5th to June 19th, and is all about reading big books (those with 500+ pages).

This readathon has a few reading challenges you may wish to complete:

  • Read more than one tome (500+ pages)
  • Take a graphic novel break (doesn't need to be over 500 pages)
  • Read a tome that is part of a series
  • Read over 500 pages in one week
  • Read an adult novel

One of my reading goals for the year is to read some large books. Especially when I'm at university, I'm bogged down with readings for class and have very little time to read for pleasure, if at all. Because of this, I tend to read shorter books. The big books are a little daunting. So this readathon is perfect for ticking some of those unread books off my list. I do have a couple of books that aren't considered tomes, but I need to finish them for a uni assessment during the readathon.

TBR
  • All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (531 pages)
  • Fullmetal Alchemist Vol. 1-3 by Hiromu Arakawa (576 pages)
  • Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff (659 pages)
  • A Clash of Kings (761 pages)
  • The Handmaid's Tale by Margeret Atwood (324 pages)
  • The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wood (352 pages)

It's a fairly ambitious list, I'll admit, but a couple of the tomes shouldn't take too long to read. Fullmetal Alchemist is a graphic novel and Gemina is... an interesting book. Since it plays with form and isn't set out like your typical novel, it's a surprisingly fast read for it's size.

I wish you all the best of luck with your reading over the next 2 weeks! Happy reading :)
